The choice is yours.
As an Alliance Credit Union member, your goals are very important to us – and that’s why we offer overdraft protection options. The choice is yours.
Overdraft Privilege Program – Changes beginning August 15, 2010
Currently, all checking accounts that are in good standing after 60 days of account opening are automatically enrolled into the Overdraft Privilege
Program (OPP). This program covers all transactions that might overdraw your account.
BEGINNING AUGUST 15, 2010 YOU MUST OPT-IN TO PARTICIPATE IN THE OVERDRAFT PRIVILEGE PROGRAM FOR ATM/DEBIT CARD TRANSACTIONS. THIS APPLIES TO ALL MEMBERS.
Even if you are already using OPP, in order to continue this benefit for ATM/debit card transactions, you must opt in by filling out
this form.
There are three ways to opt in:
What is the Overdraft Privilege Program?
Rather than automatically returning unpaid, non-sufficient funds items which could cause you to incur a fee from the payee, Alliance
pays these items up to $700 during a 30-day period. You incur an NSF/overdraft fee of $29 for each transaction that we pay when you have
insufficient funds to cover the transaction.
As long as you bring your account current within each 30 day period, this benefit continues uninterrupted. Each time we pay a non-sufficient funds item we send you a notice.
Other overdraft choices
- Do nothing. If you do not want to participate in OPP for ATM/debit card transactions simply do nothing. ACH and
check transactions will still be covered; however, if you have non-sufficient funds when using your debit card, the transaction will be declined.
- Link your savings account. You have the option to link your Alliance checking account to your Regular Share or
High Yield Money Market account. If you do not have sufficient funds in your checking account at the time of a transaction, funds from your savings
or money market account will be transferred into your checking in $100 increments for $4 per transfer.1 You can link your savings with your checking
account whether you participate in the Overdraft Privilege Program or not.2
- Overdraft line of credit. Apply for a line of credit to cover transactions when you do not have sufficient funds in your checking account.
To opt in for overdraft protection of ATM/debit card transactions, please
click here for the opt-in form.
If you have any questions about your overdraft options or would like to set up one of these options, please stop by any financial center or give us
a call at 800.232.8669 and we’ll be happy to assist you.
[1] From your savings account, you are allowed to make a maximum of six (6) non-personal transactions per month. "Non personal"
means any transfers or withdrawals made by means of preauthorized or automatic transfer, telephonic order or instruction, check,
debit card, or similar order conducted by the member and payable to third parties (e.g., ACH, or overdraft protection or an
automated transfer request such as Online Banking or Tell-A-Phone).
[2] If your share account is set up to overdraft to your checking account to cover clearing transactions and there are not sufficient
available funds between the eligible accounts, one of the following will occur:
[a] a. If you participate in the Overdraft Privilege Program and the clearing transactions and corresponding fees do not exceed the $700 program
limit, your eligible transactions will be paid by Alliance and you will be assessed a $29 fee for each cleared transaction.
or
[b] b. If you DO NOT participate in the Overdraft Privilege Program or the amount of the transaction attempting to clear exceeds the $700 program
limit, ATM or debit transactions will be declined or check(s) or automated clearing items will be returned non-sufficient funds.
